What is Coaching?

Coaching is the co-active process of working with a professional certified coach in a caring, non-judgmental, and supportive process that will stretch your ability to draw on your inner resources, recognize your personal strengths, and maximize your personal and professional potential.

Coaching also facilitates development— and development requires energy and time to happen. Are you willing to invest both, and do you have the “stick-to-it-tiveness” to experience the results of your investment? Whatever it is you want to achieve—whether it’s enhancing your personal effectiveness, improving your health, or developing leadership behaviors—you are capable of reaching your goals. The resources are in you—the coach’s job is to evoke positive and strong beliefs about your personal self-efficacy (your belief about your capability to influence your life). And as your self-efficacy develops, so will your ability to overcome difficult obstacles and reach higher goals.

When you enter into a coaching relationship, you commit to being transparent and open about your goals, your obstacles, and what “makes you tick.” You need not have a clear vision starting out, but you must be willing to create one to work toward accomplishing, and adapt when necessary. Your goal is not a moving target, but how you get there should be open to changing circumstances.

But you’re not going to do this alone—as your coach, I am here to challenge you, ask the powerful (and sometimes uncomfortable!) questions that only you can answer, and hold you accountable for what you say you will do. But most importantly, I will cheer you on as you celebrate your successes!
